Qadashdinex

$110.00

Qadashdinex means "Listen to me" in the Dena'ina Athabascan language. This series of dreamcatchers were made in Sápmi on the island of Arnøya when I was participating in an artist residency with Emily Sullivan. Before I went to Sápmi I reached out to a Sámi friend and asked for recommendations and tips; her advice inspired this series - she said "it is common to ask the place if you are welcome before setting up camp" in reference to if I was to sleep in nature. But I took this advice in all things I did in Sápmi, from walking upon the land to picking berries, to crossing the sea - I asked if I was welcome. This practice of asking new lands and waters if I was welcome, inspired the dreamcatchers, Qadashdinex, because so many times in life we forget to listen to nature, and when we ask if we are welcome, we can hear guidance. Inspired by Sápmi lands, practices, language, and their attention to detail in weaving and in life. May this dreamcatcher inspire you to listen to nature and serve as a reminder of how we are connected in so many ways.
